As a member of the British Science Festival Association, we were thrilled to showcase a series of installations and artworks at this year’s British Science Festival, which took place in Leicester between 13-17 September.

Work we showed was DeepMind researchers’ CLIP CLOP Photomontage Generator, including two artworks that had been made using the algorithm which, unlike DALL-E, MidJourney and Stable Diffusion technologies, aims to keep the artist in the loop, making the decision on what and how to create the finished artwork. Ernest Edmonds’ Leicester Tango was a new version of the work we showcased at the British Pavilion and in Leicester, as part of the Dubai Expo 2020 – the work connected Highcross Shopping Centre with Leicester’s iconic museum. PLEA was also updated with a new, more sensitive algorithm and installed at the Beta-X Gallery in Church Gate and we were delighted that Dr Tomislav Stipancic, PLEA’s creator, could join us from University of Zagreb for the week. Tomislav and Tracy gave interviews to press during the week, and here’s what was reported in iNews and the Daily Star.

On Friday 16th, we hosted Improbotics in a LIVE performance – the troupe of 9 performers (including ALeX the robot) entertained a sell out audience at the Sue Townsend Theatre and chaos ensued, culminating in a Turing Test which the audience almost won!

We have one final event which is a legacy of the British Science Festival 2022 – we will be hosting Luba Elliott, the Art AI Festival’s curator, at LCB Depot on 13 October, 5-6pm, where she will give us an overview of the VERY rapidly developing creative AI world.
